Patricia Jane Wallington Wesel Veber Snyderwine: “Pepper.” A lot of names for a lot of woman, and she wore them all well. Pepper returned to the home world Tuesday February 21, 2023. Too soon for us, but The Expanse pulled her away. She arrived through the portal at Lenox Hill Hospital New York City on November 20, 1946, and never let her parents forget it! Pepper lived by her own rules, of which there was only one: There are no rules!
A truly unique woman who never hesitated to speak her mind, Pepper was forged in such fires as the Red Scare, duck-and-cover drills, and ballet classes. She ardently championed the causes she believed in. She shared her passionate beliefs through written word as a published author, and through poetry, song and music, playing the piano and guitar with verve and intensity. She had blackbelts in shopping and haggling, wielding them with great force. She enjoyed culinary exploration and invented new and innovative recipes all the time. She loved good movies, good food and a good laugh.
Having been raised in a large family and babysitting her siblings, she was ready to raise a large family of her own when she met her first husband Warren Willis “Bill” Veber. They brought up their four daughters to revere knowledge and education, and to persevere when times were tough. Bill took turns patrolling the seas to keep the peace and helping cultivate the kids’ minds. Pepper had great affection for Bill all of her days; she was preceded in death by him in 2021.
Pepper was also preceded in death by her loving mother Isabel Patricia Paterson Wesel in 2019 and father Peter Edward Wesel Sr. in 2000.
She is survived by her cherished second husband of 36 years Paul Snyderwine, who is planet Earth’s most perfect match to her wit and wicked sense of humor! She will also be missed and remembered by her four beloved daughters Olive Beckette Veber, Lara Claire Veber Richardson, Willa Patricia Veber, and the Artist Formerly Known As “H”; as well as her treasured siblings Peter E. Wesel Jr, Isabel S. Wesel Jussen, James A. Wesel, Paul M. Wesel, Philip D. Wesel, and Anne C. Wesel Sheppard.
Pepper loved so many things in life. The powers of brilliance and goofiness collided in her beautiful, creative mind, and its magnificent energy could never be contained. She was a free spirit trapped in corporeal form, now beyond, able to fly and soar and roam the universe. As hard as it is that she is gone from here now, we look forward to hearing her marvelous tales of cosmic adventures when she swings back through our galaxy for the reunion at our ranch on the moon!
