Yvonne Madeleine Bishop

Yvonne Madeleine Bishop, 87, of Mount Pleasant, SC, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, SC on November 9, 2024. Born on June 4, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Madeleine and Gene Anns, both of London, England.

Born and raised in London, England and southern France, Yvonne married and moved to the states raising a family in Charleston. She was a tenacious card player even when playing Uno against her children and grandchildren. An avid Bridge player, she earned the coveted Life Masters status. She was the owner of The Flower Market where she was responsible for much of the decoration and event planning in the city at the time.

Her culinary skills were exceptional, as she often catered for events and special occasions. Her family meals have been missed for the past 5 - 6 years as she aged but she so enjoyed being part of family meals offered by her children.

She was the proud owner / creator of "Sassy Spice" and worked hard on the creation of a cookbook which never made it to the press. Yvonne was known as "The English Garden" and brought a touch of England to every event and garden she was involved with.Yvonne was an independent spirit who loved to entertain and garden in her retirement years.

She was never comfortable without her hair on fire driving the "Silver Bullet" around town. Our children still talk about their driving experiences with "Mimi".

In her final years at Atria, Yvonne was able to attend weekly classes on floral arrangement and design. Many of her classes' arrangements and those created by her decorated the Atria lobby as late as last week.

We would like to extend our gratitude and thanks to the Atria staff who have cared for her and tended to her for the past 4 years. We would like to thank David Chard, Kitty McMaster, and Richard Moss who were fellow Bridge players that cared and supported Yvonne by continuing to meet at Atria for weekly Monday night Bridge.

Yvonne's greatest joy was visiting with her family. She will be missed dearly.

Yvonne was proceeded in death by her husband, Pledger M. Bishop, Jr. and her beloved four-legged companion, Coby. She is survived by her children, Deborah Bishop Hill (Keith) of Norfolk, VA, Pledger M "Jody" Bishop III, (Tracy), Charles Robert Bishop, grandchildren, Nora B. Saalfield (Jack) of Mt Pleasant, Grace Bishop of Charleston, Mason Bishop of Greenville, Ben Hill of Columbus, OH, Addison Hill (Holly) of Livermore, CA, and great granddaughter, Chloe Hill.

The family will receive friends Thursday, November 21, 2024 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Burial will be private in Magnolia Cemetery.
