Wynefred Walker Rogerson

Wynefred Walker Rogerson, 93, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, formerly of Alexandria, VA, died Thursday, September 28, 2023. A memorial service will be held October 14, 2023, time and place to be announced. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.

Wynefred was born October 15, 1929, in Martinsville, Virginia, daughter of the late John Robert Walker and the late Edith Hardison Walker. She attended Hollins College and graduated from the University of North Carolina with a BA degree in English. She later completed a master's degree from George Mason University.

Wynefred married Howard Wesley Rogerson in 1953 before moving to Charlottesville, Virginia, where she worked as a teacher in the public school system while her husband was in law school. The couple moved to Alexandria, Virginia, in 1958 and started their family. After Howard’s untimely passing in 1972, she worked as a librarian for the school system of Fairfax County, Virginia. Wynefred was passionate about art and art history. For over 35 years she worked as a docent at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. At the gallery, she conducted tours and provided information to visitors.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Rogerson (Phyllis) of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Daniel Rogerson (Shelby) of Charlottesville, VA, her brother Robert Hardison Walker of Lewisburg, TN and 3 granddaughters Alyssa S. Rogerson, Anna T. Rogerson, and Ellye H. Rogerson. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Rogerson and by her sister Anne Duncan Walker Niver.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Franke at Seaside for the care they provided.
