Woodrow Sterling Hancock

Woodrow Sterling "Woody" Hancock, 67, of Johns Island, South Carolina, husband of Cheryl Welch Hancock died Wednesday, September 21, 2016. His Funeral Service and reception will be held Saturday, September 24, 2016 in St. Andrews Church Mount Pleasant, 440 Whilden Street at 2:00 pm. Burial service following will be private. The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL Friday, September 23, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.

Woody was born March 23, 1949 in Bethesda, Maryland, son of the late Woodrow Leonard Hancock and the late Mary Louise Mathias Hancock. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1972, with a degree in civil engineering. He and Cheryl raised their four daughters in Severna Park, Maryland where he was a custom home builder for 28 years, through their own company, Cherwood Corporation. Retiring in 2004, he and Cheryl relocated to Johns Island, SC. Woody was passionate about his relationship with Christ, his family and grandchildren. He loved participating in church mission work and playing golf.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cheryl Hancock of Johns Island, SC; four daughters, Kristen Shoemaker (Ben) of Johns Creek, GA, Lauren Holbrook (Andrew) of Fairfield, CT, Erin Haneline (Matthew) of Charlotte, NC, and Kaitlin Rose (Douglas) of Charlotte, NC; brother, Charles Leonard Hancock of Frederick, MD; fourteen grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kaelyn, Jackson, and Hudson Shoemaker, Mary Haddon and Evelynn Holbrook, Cora, Charlotte, Matthew Jr., and William Sterling Haneline, Noa, Benzion, Samantha, and Robinson Woodrow Rose.
