Wilton Owen Poulnot, Jr.

Wilton Owen Poulnot, Jr., 84, of Charleston, SC, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Thursday, April 17, 2025. Born on October 22, 1940, in Charleston, Wilton was the son of the late Wilton Owen Poulnot, Sr. and Frances Ellen Wright. A proud Charlestonian, Wilton grew up on the water boating, fishing, and sailing with his sister, Sue Ellen, and cousins. He loved living in the Lowcountry and enjoyed sharing Charleston’s rich history and natural beauty with his friends and family.

After graduating Charleston High School, Wilton attended Clemson University, later enlisting in the US Coast Guard. He married the love of his life, Nettie, on April 16, 1967, and their 58 year marriage was a perfect testimony of love and devotion for all who knew them. Wilton was a loving father to his two daughters and a doting PaPa to his grandchildren, all of whom will remember his gentle spirit, giving heart, and dry wit.

Wilton is survived by his beloved wife, Nettie Knight Poulnot; daughters, Robin Gaulden (Thomas), and Amy Baker (Scott); adored grandchildren, Nicholas, Logan, Hodges, and Evan; baby sister, Sue Ellen Poulnot Ratcliffe; and many other loved ones who will miss him dearly.

A memorial service will be held at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 4:00 PM, with visitation at 3:00 PM. The family will have a private burial.
