December 29, 1922 — August 24, 2014

Wilson Frank Thrower, 91, of Hanahan, SC, husband of the late Dorothy Jernigan "Dot" Thrower died Sunday, August 24, 2014. Born December 29, 1922 in Charlotte, NC, he was one of eleven children of the late William Frank Thrower and the late Ethel Knowles Thrower. He met the love of his life, Dot, in high school and they courted for eight years before marrying in 1946. During WWII Wilson served in the Navy as an electrician mate. He and his shipmates on the destroyer USS Jenks received the Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary heroism in the capture of a German submarine. He had an extensive work history including a career in civil service at both the Charleston Naval Shipyard and the Air Force base; he worked in law enforcement as an investigator for the Alcohol Beverage Division and as Chief of Police in Robbins, NC. He worked at Georgia-Pacific Corporation and also owned and operated Thrower's Upholstery for 33 years retiring at the age of 82. Wilson was a member and elder of Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church and former city council member for the City of Hanahan. An avid hunter and golfer he was quite a jokester. Most of all he was a family man; Wilson lovingly cared for his wife Dot during her three years of illness. He cherished his family and nothing brought him greater joy than being with them.

He is survived by two sons, L.F. "Buck" Thrower of Bonneau Beach, and Jerry Thrower (Linda) of St. Stephen; three daughters, Carol T. Harkness (Johnnie) of Hanahan, Patty T. Reaves (Steve) of Hanahan, Lynn T. Dusenbury (Sam) of Conway; two sisters, Josephine Head of Chesapeake, VA and Dorothy Klintworth of North Charleston; ten grandchildren, Butch Thrower, Jeff Thrower, Jamie Cruse, Rick Dusenbury, CPO Chris Dusenbury, USCG, Kelley Williams, Whitney Ortega, Danny Reaves, Patrick Reaves and Aaron Harkness; eight great-grandchildren, Conner and Kirsten Williams, Golden and Anderson Thrower, Emily Dusenbury, Hadleigh and Hayden Ortega and Layne Reaves.
