Wilson Fowler Cone, 97, of Charleston, South Carolina, devoted husband to Mary Elizabeth Bellinger Cone of 70 years went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 11, 2017. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday January 14, 2017 at Grace on the Ashley Church 2014 Bees Ferry Road at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at the Church from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Burial will be private. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL.
Wilson was born May 28, 1919 in Charleston, SC, son of the late Douglas Stratton Cone and Maude Fowler Cone. He was a graduate of Charleston High School, a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army where he was stationed in London, England, Paris and France. Wilson began in the food brokerage business as a teenager with Thomas and Howard Co. and later started his own company with Robert Koger. After retirement he took up wood carving and enjoyed many years creating wonderful works of art.
After being a member of Ashley River Baptist Church for 50 years and serving as deacon and choir member, he joined Rutledge Baptist Church (now Grace on the Ashley) and served this church faithfully.
Besides the Lord, Wilson loved his wife and family, music, golf and traveling-especially to the mountains. He was a musician who loved to sing God's praises and duets with his children! He also loved his snacks and his "medicine". He loved people and was a blessing to all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Cone of Charleston, SC; his children, Bill Cone (Carol), Doug Cone (Andrea), Patricia Cone, Frank Cone (Judy), and Steve Cone (Patty); eight grandchildren, Jenny Carroll, Brian Cone, Stephen Cone, Christina Cone, Jason Cone, David Cone, Drew Cone, Matt Cone, and six great-grandchildren, Gracie Cone, Owen Cone, Mary Elizabeth Cone, Ben Cone, Hayes Cone, Aymes Cone.
