Wilson Harvey Brockinton, 93, trial lawyer of Charleston, South Carolina, for 60 years, died Wednesday, November 20, 2013. His Funeral Service will be held Monday, November 25, 2013 at the The French Protestant Huguenot Church, at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Churchyard. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 129 South Battery, Charleston, SC 29401. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Mr. Brockinton was born November 14, 1920 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late David Arthur Brockinton and Anne Franklin Harvey. He was educated at The Craft School, the old High School of Charleston, Auburn University and was a graduate of the College of Charleston. After serving in the United States Marine Corps during WWII, he obtained his law degree at the University of South Carolina and was actively engaged in the practice of law in the Brockinton family law firm since the summer of 1948 until his recent retirement.He was a member of the Charleston County Bar Association; The South Carolina Bar Association; the Charleston Library Society; the South Carolina Historical Society; the Agricultural Society of South Carolina; the Fort Sumter Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans; a life member of the 1st Marine Division Association and its sub-group, "Item" Company; 3rd Bn., 5th Marines, which rifle company he captained on Okinawa and in North China; the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation; the Marine Corps Association; the Marine Corps League; and the Parris Island Historical and Museum Society. He was an ardent supporter of the Confederate Home and of the Magnolia Cemetery Trust, a member of the National Rifle Association and a long time member of the Carolina Yacht Club. He was a member of The Huguenot (French Protestant) Church.
Mr. Brockinton was predeceased by his wife, Leonora Cheves Brockinton. He is survived by two sons; Wilson Harvey Brockinton, Jr. (Renee) and Langdon Cheves Brockinton (Margaret); a step-son, Guy Cheves Tarrant (Teresa); 8 grandchildren; Renee (Jay), Eliza, Harvey, III, Heyward, Molly, Emma Foster, Langdon and McCord, all of Charleston; 2 great-grandchildren; Adaire and Lang; an older brother, David Arthur Brockinton, Jr., of Charleston; a younger sister, Franklin Brockinton Stone, of Richmond, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
