Wilmer "Bill" Shirey

MSCM (SS) Wilmer Carey Shirey, “Bill”, “Hemie” USN Ret., 82 years old of Goose Creek, SC passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023, in Summerville, SC.  He was born on May 18, 1941, in Evergreen, AL. 
A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 27, 2023 at J. Henry Stuhr, Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Rd., N. Charleston at 2:00 PM. Entombment will follow at Whispering Pines Cemetery, 3044 Old Highway 52, Moncks Corner, SC.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at J. Henry Stuhr Northwoods Chapel from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
He is survived by his Spouse Edma, Son Michael, Daughter-in-law Joanna, Grandson Lincoln, Daughter Michele, Granddaughter Michaela, and Great-grandson Asher.
He graduated from Johnson and Wales University. He was a Certified Executive Chef. 
Master Chief WC Shirey served twenty-eight years in the United States Navy as an MSCM(SS), primarily on submarines.  He retired in Goose Creek, SC.  
He was active in The Boy Scout Troop 459 with his son in the 80s and 90s.  He was a committee chairman and an Assistant Scoutmaster during that time. He achieved the Honor of Brotherhood in the Order of the Arrow from Unali’yi Lodge #236.
He was a Firefighter with Goose Creek Rural Volunteer Fire Department in the late 70s.  He later became a member of the Board of Directors of the same fire department from 1990 – 2018. He served as the Board Chairman for over twenty years during that time.  He was a Lifetime Member of the Goose Creek Rural Volunteer Fire Department. 
Worshipful Brother Bill Shirey was raised as a Master Mason in 1992. He became the Master of Goose Creek Masonic Lodge #401, A.F.M. in 2001. He was also a member of Berkeley Omar Shriners, National Sojourners, Scottish Rite, Knights of St. Andrew, York Rite, Eastern Star, and Knights Templar.  He was an advisor on the SCIORG Goose Creek Rainbow Girls Advisory Board in the 90s when his daughter was a member of the Rainbow Girls.
