Wilma Simpson Spangler, 89, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of the late Louis Spangler, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 from Parkinson's Disease. A Celebration of Wilma's Life will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2013 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 6:30 pm. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton, VA. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm at Stuhr's Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Wilma was born March 16, 1924 in Emory Gap, Tennessee, daughter of the late McKinley and Maggie Moore Simpson . She was a Nurse Practitioner in Anesthesiology. A graduate of Laird Memorial School of Nursing at the University of Alabama - Birmingham. Wilma was retired from Roanoke Memorial Hospitals. Known to many as "Miss Vogue", Ms. Spangler was a former resident of The Palms of Mt. Pleasant and Somerby of Mt. Pleasant. Wilma volunteered for the MS Society, and was a Girl Scout leader. She was an fanatic about exercise and adored her Roanoke Athletic Club. Her other interests included shopping, reading, crafts, and buying houses. She was a former member of Thrasher United Methodist Church in Vinton, VA. and South Roanoke United Methodist Church in Roanoke, VA.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Norvelle and her husband, Rob of Mount Pleasant, SC; her grandson, Brandon Norvelle of Seneca, SC; and her sisters, Dreama Starr of Moncks Corner, SC, and Margie Horton of Lexington, SC. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Wilma was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Ralph Simpson, Mattie Wilson, McKinley "Hunkie" Simpson, Jr., Bill Simpson, and Juanita Herron.

Susan Higgins, RN, Hospice of Charleston, and all of her colleagues at home care and the Hospice Center of Charleston provided exceptional palliative care and support during the last eighteen months. Their professionalism, wisdom, and compassion will be forever appreciated.
