Wilma F. Davis, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of Archie Bernice Davis passed away at home on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. Her Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 9, 2018 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 1:00 pm. Entombment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road. The family will receive friends in the Mount Pleasant Chapel on Friday from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
Wilma was born October 8, 1929 in Crestview, Florida, daughter of the late Daniel Walton Ferdon and the late Bernice Ruth Edge Ferdon. She was a native of Crestview, Florida where she attended Okaloosa County schools and graduated from Crestview High School in 1948. After graduation in Florida, Wilma moved to Charleston, SC where she began, in 1951, her career with the News and Courier and the Charleston Evening Post, which lasted until she retired in 1984.
The Davises met and were married in the Charleston Heights Baptist Church on May 3, 1952. They've been active members of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant since 1955. Wilma was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and The Daughters of the Nile, Milcah Temple 77, where she served as Queen from 2006-2007.
She is survived her loving husband of 65 years, Archie Davis and two nieces, Polly Pressley and Angela Ferdon. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, Willie Bryant and Carl Ferdon, and three nephews, Michael, Daniel, and Waldo Ferdon.
Archie would like to express his deep appreciation to the members of First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant, especially the Gerald Hunter/John Mays Sunday School Class, The Beacon Hospice (Crescent), East Cooper Meals on Wheels, the We Care Home Service, and the many friends who supported them over the years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
