Willington Edmondston "Wing" Freeman, 91, husband of Crawford Locke Freeman of Mt. Pleasant, SC passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2010. The relatives and friends of Willington E. Freeman are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Sunday, November 7, 2010 in St. Andrew's Church - Mt. Pleasant at 1:00 p.m.  Burial will follow in Christ Episcopal Churchyard. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.  Friends may call at the residence of Berta and Robbie Freeman, 3 Barre Street, Charleston, on Saturday, November 6, 2010 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Born at home in Mt. Pleasant on March 9, 1919, Wing was the fifth of seven sons of the late James Oswald Freeman and Mary Pope Frampton Freeman. He grew up on the front beach in Mt. Pleasant and graduated from the High School of Charleston. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served during WWII alongside five brothers in the Navy. He was a graduate of Banking School in Madison, Wisconsin, and retired after 44 years with the Citizens and Southern National Bank where he was affectionately known as "Joe".  He helped many find their first job in the banking industry.  After retiring from banking Wing served as interim director of the Charleston Museum, and later worked in real estate with Howell and Associates. Wing reveled in family life and adored his ten grandchildren. He looked forward to the annual summer pilgrimage to Litchfield Beach for "Freeman Beach Week".  He loved to fish and shrimp and shared this passion with his children and grandchildren.  Wing was an avid sailor, winning many races in the Widgeon class, and served as race committee chairman for the Hobcaw Yacht Club regatta the year a record was set with 232 registered boats. In his retirement he enjoyed cruising to Price Inlet on his sloop "JadieKate" Wing was always mindful and responsive to the needs of others, and one of his greatest joys was  caregiving for many friends and relatives. A humble and witty man, he claimed that his only noteworthy achievement in school was that his name, when written on the blackboard, was the longest in the class. Wing was a member of St. Andrew's Church in Mt. Pleasant his entire life. He served on the vestry as senior warden,  and was treasurer for many years. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Crawford Locke Freeman of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughters, Mary Freeman Elam and her husband, Mark, Ellen Freeman James and her husband, Donny, and Carole Ann Freeman Berry and her husband, David; sons, John Frampton Freeman and his wife, Leslie, and Robert Locke Freeman and his wife, Berta; one brother, Dr. Harry W. Freeman and his wife, "Margie", of Mt. Pleasant, SC; ten grandchildren, Will Freeman, Anna Freeman, Kate Freeman, Jadie James, Vee Elam, Ross Freeman, Albert Freeman, Caroline Freeman, Mary Crawford James and Ellie James, and his dear friends Alex Lofton, Cam Burn, and Vince Adams.  He was preceded in death by five brothers, James Oswald Freeman, Lewis Frampton Freeman, John Frampton Freeman, Campbell Courtenay Freeman and James Frampton Freeman, and his lifelong friends Wyman Frampton, Jim Frampton, and Bishop Moultrie Moore. The family requests that memorials be made to St. Andrew's Church - Mt. Pleasant, 440 Whilden Street, Mt. Pleasant, SC  29464.
