Willie "Billy" Ellison Metts, Sr., 85, of Charleston, SC, died Sunday, August 1, 2010 peacefully at home surrounded by his family.


Born August 15, 1924 in St. George, SC he was one of five children of Thomas Marion Metts and Rosa Isabell Dukes Metts.  Mr. Metts graduated from St. George High School and was a World War II veteran of the 11th Army Air-Corp.  He worked several construction jobs in Charleston including building of the VA Hospital and the Ashley House where he lived. 


Mr. Metts is survived by four daughters:  Melba M. Moskal (Mike) of Summerville, SC, Wanda M. Smith (Steve) of North Charleston, SC, Diane M. Holloway (Jerry) Lonsdale, MN and Cheryl M. Owen (Walter) Ruckersville, VA; son, William Ellison Metts, Jr. of Carolina Beach, NC; nine grandchildren:  Michael, Jerel (Sandra), Jody, Shannon, Melanie (Matt), Sharron (Michael), James, Jonathan and Steven; eight great-grandchildren:  Isabella, Kaylee, Isaac, Wyatt, Austin, Krystal, Kurt and Alina; a very special friend and companion, Blanche Prosser; several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Eva Bell Metts; three brothers:  Fritz Hugh Lee Metts, Barney McCoy Metts, Sr. and Thomas Marion Metts, Sr.


The funeral service will be held in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 11:00 AM.  Interment with military honors to follow at St. George Cemetery at 1:00 PM.  The family will receive friends in Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel Friday, August 6, 2010 between 6:00 and 8:00 PM.
