William Carl Wittchow, 74, of Ladson, South Carolina, husband of Brenda Sue Collins Wittchow, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, December 10, 2022. His graveside funeral service will be held Friday, December 16, 2022 in Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Road at 2:00 pm. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway.
William was born October 24, 1948 in Peru, Indiana, son of the late Herman Carl Wittchow and Florence Rose Fijardo Wittchow. William was a true military person, having served two years active duty in the US Army, then retired from the US Army Reserve with the rank of SFC. He was a veteran of both the Vietnam War and Desert Storm and served with the 941st Transportation Company. He later retired from civil service as a warehouseman for the commissary at the Charleston Air Force Base, Naval Weapons Station and the Charleston Naval Base. He loved fishing, traveling, and The Atlanta Braves. He was of the Lutheran faith.
In addition to his wife, William is survived by his daughter, Heidi Marie Smith (Robert) of Ravenel; son, William Matthew Wittchow of Ladson; grandchildren, Kathryn Ella Smith and Emma Grace Smith both of Ravenel; brothers, John Wittchow (Heide) of Hanahan and Michael Wittchow (Marsha) of Lexington; sisters, Dorothy Therrien of Maud, OK and Nancy Bell (Kenny) of Saint George; and his beloved dog, Max. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Wittchow; sister, Mary Wittchow; and brother-in-law, Steve Therrien.
