William John Swindell, Jr., 83, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Ida Spitz Swindell entered into eternal rest Monday, April 11, 2016. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 16, 2016 in The Church of the Good Shepherd, 1393 Miles Drive at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends Friday April 15, 2016 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

William was born November 29, 1932 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late William John Swindell and Blanche Elizabeth. He was a graduate of Walterboro High School, and Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, NC. William was a veteran of the Korean War serving as an air flight mechanic with the U.S. Army, and also served as an civilian employee for the Army in the Atlantic Depot Administration Department. After, he and Ida returned to Charleston, he continued his civilian employee career as a budget analyst with the Naval Facility Engineering Command.

William was a faithful man of God who made his profession of faith as a child in Rice Patch Christian Church which he always considered his first church home. He has always proclaimed the Gospel of Jesus Christ through service to young churches; guiding and encouraging others with the wisdom of a brother in Christ; and following the leading of the Holy Spirit to witness the countless individuals throughout his life even to his last days. William was an active member of The Church of Good Shepherd and its Healing Prayer Ministry.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ida Swindell, and daughter, Ruth Caroline Swindell both of Charleston, SC; first cousins Margarette Swindell Laughinghouse of Pantego, NC, Waylon "Buster" Hiers (Janie) of Anderson, SC, Ann Hiers of Potomac, MD, Donald Hiers (Carol) of Atlanta, GA, Frank Cloud (Bernice) of Lexington, KY, Bill Could (Nancy) of Knoxville, TN, Betty Tucker of Independence, MO, Barbara Chizek (Bob) of Kansas City, MO, and many dear second and thrid cousins.
