Entered into eternal rest on the evening of May 9, 2012, William Aubrey Smith of Charleston, SC, husband of Anne (DeeDee) Maull Smith. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Smith are invited to attend his funeral services at Grace United Methodist Church, Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
Born on July 25, 1922 in Lafayette, Tennessee, William was the son of the late Jessie A. Smith and Gladys Barker Smith. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was a Navy Seabee WWII veteran, member of the Masonic, Scottish and York Rite Orange Lodge, and member of the Omar Shriners and Elks Lodge 242. He was a former member of the Charleston County Board of Assessment Appeals for over 20 years and served 18 years as Chairman of the Board. He was a member of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and Canada for 70 years and was a retired Pipe Fitter. He also served as President and Business Manager for the Local Union 421.
Surviving are his wife, Anne (DeeDee) Maull Smith of Charleston; two sons, William A. Smith, Jr. of Irmo, SC and Raymond A. Smith of Lebanon, OH; a daughter, Deborah E. Smith-Hargett of Charleston; five grandchildren, Alex, Jason, Jerred, Eric and Annie; and three great grandchildren, Alexander, Olive and Hudson; two sisters, Eddie Carol Fyles of Denver, CO and Dixie Moran of Spartanburg, SC. He was predeceased by a sister Leah Reddoch.
