William Augustus Sheppard, age 89, passed away Monday, November 3, 2025, in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. He was born on January 23, 1936, in Buna, Texas to the late Charlie Sheppard, and the late Hazel Turner Sheppard.
A proud veteran, William retired from the United States Air Force, having dedicated a significant portion of his life to defending his country. After his military service, he continued to exemplify hard work and dedication in his career at Cummins Diesel Engine Plant. Additionally, he served in security at Patriot’s Point, ensuring the safety and well-being of those who visited this renowned site. He was also a member of the James Island Reelers Square Dance Club.
He is survived by his son, Mark Sheppard of Charleston, SC, and two daughters, Deborah Martin of Dorchester, SC, and Alice Clemons of Charleston, SC. He also leaves behind three stepdaughters, Jeannie Swann of Charleston, SC, Vicki Moroughan (Lloyd) of Greenwood, DE, and Lori Simpson (Tom) of Chester, SC, along with a stepson, Michael Harris of Mount Pleasant, SC. His cherished siblings, Ruby Jackson and Mary White (Robert), also survive him, alongside 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
William was preceded in death by wife of 44 years, JoAnn Marie Ingalls Sheppard, his infant son, Michael Sheppard, his brother, Clinton Sheppard, and his sister, Annie Bennett.
A graveside service with military honors will be held for William Augustus Sheppard with military honors, and his wife, JoAnn Marie Ingalls Sheppard on Friday, December 5, 2025 in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd,11:00 am.
