William "Mouse" Schliewenz

July 24, 1928 — December 6, 2017

William "Mouse" Schliewenz, 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Betty Seabrook Schliewenz died Wednesday, December 6, 2017 with loved ones at his side. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 10, 2017 J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A private graveside service will be held in Live Oak Memorial Gardens.

The Mouse was born July 24, 1928 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late William "Bush" Schliewenz and Isalea Teresa Brauer Anderson. He graduated from Charleston High School and attended the College of Charleston where he played basketball and was the free throw champion, hitting 213 out of 250 shots. The Mouse was drafted into the Army during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from The Citadel, class of 1957. Upon graduation, Mouse went onto to become a U.S. Customs Import Specialist.

Mousie was a Life Member of Elks Lodge #242, Elk of the Year and State Elk of the Year. He was a member of the Charleston Rifle club and the American Legion for 31 years.

Mousie was a Life Member and Past President of the Citadel Club of Charleston, Life Member of the Citadel Alumni Association, and a Brigadier Club-Century Member, He was active in sports his whole life: basketball, baseball, slow pitch softball (up into his 70's), swimming, high dive competition, life guard, boxing - Golden Gloves - assistant coach to coach "Matty" Matthews for 20 plus years and golfed into his 80's. Mousie worked charity events, volunteered and raised money for Alzheimer's through Golf Tournaments. He was always the life of any party or event. Mousie loved dancing, socializing and good music. He enjoyed traveling with his "Sweet Thing" going to the Bahamas, Las Vegas, Germany and many other destinations and events. Mousie was a caring, giving, compassionate, positive, energetic man. He, Mr. "GD" Webster, could always find the right words to bring a smile to anyone he met. He was a former member of St. Johannes Lutheran Church and a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

The Mouse is survived by his wife, Betty; children: Freddy Schliewenz, Trey Seabrook (Melissa), Barry Seabrook (Christine) and Crystal Seabrook Dorner (Rob); brother, Bobby Schlienwenz (Ann); sisters: Cheryl Anderson Townsend (Bill), and Barbara Anderson Fiddie; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vera Schliewenz. The Mouse will be dearly missed by all.

Memorials may be made to The Citadel Brigadier Foundation Memorial Fund in his honor.
