William Alfred "Billy" Port, 63, lost his battle with cancer, but won his entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven on August 11, 2018. His Funeral Service will be held Sunday, August 19, 2018 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
Billy was born September 28, 1954 in Belleville, Illinois, the eldest son of the late Chalmers Marshall and Anna Mary Port. Billy was married to Nancy Chambers Port for 33 years and a lifelong member of John Wesley United Methodist Church. He graduated from St. Andrew's High School in 1973 where he was a standout athlete in baseball and football, scoring a touchdown every game of his senior year. Billy graduated from NCSU which he attended on an athletic scholarship for football and baseball. He was a catcher for the 1975 ACC Championship Baseball Team. Billy had a long finance career which ended with Ford Motor Credit, after 20 years of service. Billy remained an avid sports fan supporting his Wolfpack, the Falcons, and the Citadel Bulldogs, in honor of his father. He loved spending time with his family, walking his dog Chipper, and spending his weekends with his dear friends at 8th Street, Folly Beach.
Billy is survived by his daughter, Anna Catherine Port Stokes and husband Shaun Stokes of Charleston; his son, Madison Thomas Port of Charleston; his brother, Kenric E. Port of Atlanta, GA; his sister, Sharon Forrester of Charleston; and his sister, Laurie Rogers of Fort Mill. Billy was a beloved uncle to many nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents. Billy leaves behind family and friends that will miss his infectious laugh and love of life.
