William McClean
Mixon
February 19, 1937 – April 20, 2026
William McLean Mixon, age 89, of Yemassee, South Carolina passed away peacefully at home on April 20, 2026 . Born on February 19, 1937, to Robert and Alma Mixon he was the youngest of nine children.
Billy was a self-made man who worked hard all his life and was adored by his wife of 70 years, Barbara Hill Mixon, and his four daughters who thought their Daddy could do no wrong. When his fourth daughter was born, the Doctor told him he would be the quietest man in town. He may have been a little quiet at times but he loved sitting in his house listening to all the different conversations going on at one time knowing no one was listening to each other.
Billy began his career working for Cyclone Fence. Soon after he married, he started his own Fence and Guardrail company, WM Mixon Company. After many years in the fence business, he began building economy motels, The Carolina Lodge. Billy and Barbara had a full life together with wonderful stories (some you wouldn’t believe) traveling around with friends up and down the intracoastal waterway in their boat and later all over the country in their RV. When they weren’t traveling, Billy loved nothing more than being on his tractor. He was the founding member of The Auld Brass Hunt Club, and never stopped until the ponds were just right for the ducks and fields were ready for the birds.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his eight siblings, and his oldest daughter Melissa Mixon Allred.
Billy is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Barbara; his three daughters, Kim Smith (Bos), Jane Robb (Eric), and Nancy Collins (Marc); 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren, with two more due this year.
A private burial is planned.
Arrangements are by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel. A memorial message may be sent to the family on our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.
