William P. Mitchell "Bill", 71, of Charleston, South Carolina, formerly of Covington, VA, husband of the late Mary Jane Forbes Mitchell, entered into eternal rest Sunday, October 28, 2018. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 30,2018 at J. HENRY STUHR INC .,WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Bill was born November 7, 1946 in Montour Falls, NY. He was the son of the late William Phineas Mitchell and Mildred Sizer Mitchell. He attended Covington High School and played football at Augusta Military Academy and Fredrick College. He also attended Appalachian State University and graduated from East Tennessee State.
Bill was a builder and contractor for over 40 years and his projects included sailboats, Folly Beach Marina Dock and Boat Landing, and Folly Beach Baptist Church. He also built schools, commercial buildings, and private homes.
He had the wind in his face most of his life and as a avid sailor and Harley Rider, his free spirit took him on many adventures covering the United States.
He is survived by his daughter, Amy Lynn Mitchell Fennell of Charleston, SC; a sister, Margaret Mitchell Carpenter of Covington, VA; brother-in-law Colonel Jerry Eubank and his children, Brigadier General Chris Eubank and Captain Craig Eubank, USNR; a nephew, Robert Joseph Carpenter of Covington, VA; a niece, Kim Nevetral; a special friend, Shirley Lorraine Mitchell of Charleston, SC; and his beloved feline companion, Peek-A-boo. Bill was preceded in death by his son, William Phineas Mitchell III; a sister, Patricia Walton Eubank; and a brother, James Robert Mitchell.
