William Lee Mellard, Jr.

William Lee Mellard, Jr., 75, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Mary Elizabeth Fields Mellard, entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 26, 2023. The family will receive friends Saturday, June 3, 2023, from 4:00 pm until 5:00 pm, at the West Ashley Chapel. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel. 

William was born October 1, 1947, in Charleston, South Carolina, the son of the late William Lee Mellard, Sr. and the late Jeanette Craig Mellard. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army and South Carolina National Guards. While stationed in Warrenton, Virginia, on August 28, 1970, he married Mary. In October of 1971, they welcomed the birth of their daughter, Ginger. After moving back to Charleston, SC, he worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was the Head Foreman Rigger in Shop 72. In June of 1976, they welcomed the birth of their son, William III. He worked many jobs after his retirement from the CNSY and was employed at the Post & Courier at the time of his passing.

Along with his wife, of 54 years, he is survived by his daughter, Ginger Ann Mellard of Charleston, SC; his son, Willam Lee Mellard III (wife Kerry) of Charleston, SC; his granddaughter, Jo Marie Condon-Mellard; sister, Jan Fisher; sister, Denise Mellard; and cousins, nephews, and nieces. He is preceded in death along with his parents, his grandparents David and Bessie Mellard, Grandmother Aura Craig, along with Aunts, Uncles, and other family.

Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriers Project and also to the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.
