William McIntosh III, 77, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Suzanne de la Vergne McIntosh left his house feet first as he always said he would on Monday, October 10, 2016. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 14, 2016 in St. Philip's Church, 142 Church Street at 2:00 pm. Interment, The French Huguenot Churchyard. William was born January 25, 1939 son of the late William McIntosh, Jr. and Carolina Campbell McIntosh. After Carolina's death, he was raised lovingly by his adoptive mother, his father's second wife, Ella McArthur McIntosh. He was a graduate of Tulane University and the owner of McIntosh Travel Agency. William was a member of the Society of the War of 1812, the Mayflower Society, the Society of First Families of South Carolina, the New England Society, the St Andrew's Society, the Society of Colonial Wars, the Huguenot Society and the Carolina Yacht Club. He was President of the Preservation Society and served two terms. William received the South Carolina Governor's Award for Historic Preservation and served as Senior Warden at St. Philip's Church. He is also the author of a history of the Yemassee Indian War and a history of St. Philip's Church.
William is survived by his wife, Suzanne; three daughters: Suzanne Leda McIntosh Jackson (Edward) of Charleston, SC, Jeanne McIntosh Rietzke (Dick) of Wilmington, NC and Hayden McIntosh Geer (Richard) of McClellanville, SC and two grandchildren: Suzanne Motte Peronneau Jackson and Edward Chisolm Jackson.
