William "Bill" E. McClary, Sr., of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025, at the age of 91. Bill was a beloved husband to Betty Cobb McClary and a cherished member of his family and community. He was born on January 11, 1934, in Charleston, South Carolina, to the late Jesse S. McClary, Sr. and Ruby Hiott McClary. A man of remarkable character and determination, Bill dedicated his life to his work as a business owner of McClary’s Paint & Body Shop earning respect and admiration from those around him. His engagements in the community reflected his commitment to family, friendship, and service, which left a lasting impact. He also had a love for fishing, golfing and hosting family and friends for grilling, Lowcountry Boils and a fish fry. Bill is survived by his wife of 66+years, Betty McClary of Mount Pleasant, SC, loving son, William "Gene" E. McClary, Jr., and three daughters, Robin M. Windham (Russell), Lori M. Gossett, and Wendy L. McClary, all of Mount Pleasant SC. . He finds comfort in the presence of his siblings, including his brothers Jesse S. McClary and Richard S. McClary, and his sister, Shirley M. Woodside, and preceded in death by his sisters, Dot M. Coley, Lucille M. Harden, Frank M. Tyler and Pat M. Baker and brother, Robert McClary. Bill also leaves behind six grandchildren: Jillian L. Windham, John R. Windham II (Bre), C Jordan Gossett, Austin T. Gossett, William “Wil” E. McClary, III and Mallory Smith (Justin), along with two great grands, Matthew and Bennett, and a special nephew and his wife, Joe and Starr Christen. A Funeral Service honoring Bill’s life will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, located at 3222 Middle Street, at 11:30 am. The entombment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 3093 Ashley River Road, Charleston SC29414. The McClary family will welcome friends for a half hour prior to the service at the church. Bill is remembered for his unwavering love for his family and his deep-rooted connections within his community. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Sunrise Presbyterian Church or Franke at Seaside c/o Allison MacFie 1558 Rifle Range Road, Mt Pleasant SC 29464.
