Entered into eternal rest on the of August 6, 2010, WILLIAM GARY LONG, widower of Margot Benois Long. Residence, Charleston, SC. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral services, Monday, August 9th, at three o'clock at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Burial will be private. Friends may call at Stuhr's Downtown Chapel Sunday, August 8th between five and seven o'clock.
Mr. Long was born November 26, 1922 in Ward, SC, the son of Robert William Long and Wyonna Gladys Satcher Long. He served proudly in the United States Navy, retiring after a career of 30 years as a Chief Petty Officer. Mr. Long fought for his country during World War II, Korean War and Viet Nam war. He was a former member of The German Friendly Society and the Deutscher Bruderliche Bund.
He will be sadly missed by his loving daughter, Shirley L. Cooke of Charleston, SC, two grandsons, Jonathan Cooke (Heather) of Atlanta, GA, and T.J. Cooke, II of Charleston, SC; two great grandsons, Jackson E. Cooke and Jakob D. Cooke of Atlanta, GA; one brother, Lewis M. Long of Columbia, SC; three nephews: Johnnie Tucker Morris, Lewis M. Long, Jr. and Charles Estabrook; one niece, Charlotte Thomas. He is predeceased by his sisters, Nola Long Johnson and Frances Long Hammond, and his brother Robert "Pete" Long.
