William Joseph Kroft

September 7, 1925 — May 30, 2015

William Joseph Kroft, Jr. 89, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Angela Gillian Croker Kroft, died Saturday, May 30, 2015. His Rite of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 5, 2015, in Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, 1204 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island followed by military honors. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 4, in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.

William was born September 7, 1925 in Toledo, Ohio, son of the late William Joseph Kroft and Margaret Helen Henley Kroft. He joined the Navy in 1942, serving with the Seabees, during World War II. He continued his military career with the Army Air Corps, and retired from the Air Force in 1964. Following his military retirement, he worked as an oil tanker driver with Matlack. He was a member of the East Cooper Outboard Motor Club, the American Legion, and VFW Isle of Palms. He was a member of Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years; his children, Jennifer deBrux and her husband Sumter, Angela Happel, Dennie Kroft and his wife Rita, and Marion May and her husband Rudy; his grandchildren, Sophia deBrux, Ava deBrux, Maggie Happel, Knight Happel, Emily Courtwright and her husband Glenn, Adam Podway, Denise Hamlette, Jennie Dobbs, Ashley Kroft, Ivan Kroft, Laurie Nixon, Courtney Marsh, Billy Counts, and Marshall Young; his brother, John Kroft and his wife Shari; great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Cindy Podway and Joyce Lish, and his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Walter Kramer.

William was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who was a stranger to no one. He loved fishing, boating, animals and riding his mower. He loved the military and the opportunity it gave him to travel the world.
