William Elias Koopman

 William Elias Koopman, husband of Carolyn Rumph Koopman, entered into eternal rest on the morning of January 19, 2011.  Residence Charleston, SC.  Born in Florence, SC on May 7, 1920.  He was the son of the late John Elias Koopman and Eunice Scarborough Koopman.

The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. William Elias Koopman are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 22, 2011 in The First Baptist Church of Charleston. Interment, Bethany Cemetery. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Friday between 4:00 and 6:30 pm.

Bill was a faithful and active member of First Baptist Church Charleston.  He served as District Manager of Atlantic Coast Life Insurance Company, and then Regional Manager of Public Savings Life Insurance Company.  He retired in 1990 as a Development Officer at Charleston Southern University.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carolyn Rumph Koopman. Son, William Elias Koopman, Jr. (Carol) of Charleston.  Daughter, Carolyn Koopman Sudyk (Bill) of Gastonia, NC.  Granddaughters, Candice Koopman Lapham of Spartanburg, SC, Barbara Ashley Koopman of Jacksonville, FL,  Kimberly Koopman Durham (Jonathan) of Charleston, and Julie Sudyk Campbell (Morgan) of Charleston.  Grandson, Michael William Sudyk (Erica) of Hillsborough, NC. Great Granddaughters, Alexandra Mead Lockman of Spartanburg, SC and Samantha Kate Durham of Charleston, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the loving care given by the caretakers and staff of The Palmettos Assisted Living and Solaris Hospice.
