William Charles Kennerty, Jr., 93, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Joan Snowden Kennerty entered into eternal rest Wednesday, January 24, 2018. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 29, 2018 in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 1695 Raoul Wallenberg Boulevard at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of his life will be held after the service in St. Joseph's Family Life Center. The family is invited to Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway. William was born February 19, 1924 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late William Charles Kennerty, Sr. and Rosina Sottile Kennerty. He graduated from Porter Military Academy in 1941. Mr. Kennerty served in World War II(Luzon) and retired as a Colonel from the Unites States Army. He graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Horticulture in 1948. He worked in the agricultural products industry and retired from W.R.Grace and Company.Mr. Kennerty lived his entire life on Ashley Hall Plantation. He married his wife, Joan, on June 6, 1956. He devoted his life to farming, his family, his community, and Clemson. He was the President of Kennerty Development Inc., served as commissioner with Charleston County Soil and Water Conservation, and St. Andrews Public Service District. He was past president of the Exchange Club of Charleston and served on the vestry of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. He has been an IPTAY representative since 1950.He received the Distinguished Service Award from Clemson University in 1996 and the William C. Kennerty Staff Meeting Room at Clemson Memorial Stadium in the West End Zone was dedicated to him in 2009. He was the oldest member of the Hibernian Society of Charleston. He was a member of the Agriculture Society of Charleston for over 50 years and an Honorary Life Member of the German Friendly Society and Quis Qui Club of Charleston.He is survived by his wife, Joan and two children: Joseph S. Tyson (Sally) of Savannah, GA and Joan K. Doran (Jeff) of Charleston, SC; two grandchildren: Joseph S. Tyson, Jr. of Savannah, GA and William A. Ray of Charleston, SC; and one great grandson, Kelton M. Tyson of AL.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Hibernian Foundation, P.O.
