Dr. William Philip "Phil" Kennedy

Dr. William Philip Kennedy, aka Phil, 82, has chased Iris once again to be by her side. His service will be at Wesley United Methodist Church (145 E College Ave, Hartsville, SC 29550) at 1 pm on October 19, 2022.

Phil was born October 24, 1939, in New Zion, SC, son of William Talbert Kennedy and Coline Gibbons Kennedy.

Phil grew up in Manning, SC, and excelled in academics and athletics, leading teams and setting records. He graduated from Clemson College in 1961 and from Virginia Commonwealth University Dental College before marrying Iris, the love of his life. They moved to Munich, Germany, in 1964, where Phil served as Captain in the United States Army.

In 1968, they settled in Hartsville, SC, where they happily raised three children. Phil loved his family, friends, church, community, Clemson, the United States, and the world and dedicated his life to all.

Among many honors, Phil served on the Board of Visitors at Clemson, received the Distinguished Service Award from Clemson, and served as President of the South Carolina Dental Association. Phil built a successful dentist practice in Hartsville, South Carolina and cared for thousands of patients during his time as a dentist. He, Iris, and their friends traveled the world and enjoyed generations of Clemson games in Death Valley.

Phil will be remembered for his patience and kindness and devoted husband and father and friend.

Phil is survived by his brother Wayne Kennedy, of Turbeville, SC; daughter, Barbara Kennedy Lehnhoff (Richard), of Charleston, SC; sons, William Philip Kennedy, Jr of Switzerland and Peter Usher Kennedy (Haven) of Asheville, NC; and grandchildren, Lizzie and Caitlin Lehnhoff, Philip and Lily Kennedy and Ava Mae and Clara Kennedy; and his daughter-in-law, Kelly Kennedy.

Memorials can be given to Roper Hospice Cottage (676 Wando Park Blvd, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464) or Wesley United Methodist Church (145 E College Ave, Hartsville, SC 29550).
