JOHNSON, Major William Tillman

Major William Tillman Johnson, US Army (Retired), husband of Sue Hendrix Johnson, passed away Wednesday evening, May 11, 2011 in a local nursing home.  The friends and relatives of Major Johnson are invited to attend his funeral service with full military honors at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the graveside, Hillcrest  Memorial Park 2700 Deans Bridge Road, Augusta, GA.  ARRANGEMENTS  BY J. HENRY STUHR. INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.  Major Johnson was born March 18, 1920, in Augusta, GA, son of the late Bill Johnson and Flossie Hughes Johnson.  He was retired from the U.S. Army, having served 33 years with tours of duty during WWII and the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of Mann United Methodist Church in Augusta, GA, as well as the Ft. Jackson Masonic Lodge, No. 374 in Columbia.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Hendrix Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one daughter, Billie S. Lewis of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one son, Michael W. Johnson of Leesville, SC; three grandchildren, Elaine McGuire Simmons of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Kevin S. McGuire of Charleston, SC, and William Edward (Billy) Johnson of Leesville, SC; and three great-grandchildren, William R. Simmons III, Katelin M. Simmons, and Christie Johnson.  Major Johnson was preceded in death by his brother, J.T. Johnson, and his half-sister, Gladys Johnson.
