William Davis Huggins, 94, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Eleanor Hutson Huggins died Thursday, November 17, 2016. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2016 in the Grace Church Cathedral, 98 Wentworth Street at 10:30 a.m. Interment, Summerville Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.

Davis was born March 25, 1922 in Manning, South Carolina, to the late Samuel Leard Huggins and the late Margaret Nelson Beard Huggins. He was one of five boys, all of whom served in the United States military. Davis graduated from Dreher High School in Columbia. After high school, he joined the US Army, and served during World War II, from 1943 to 1946 in the European Theater of Operations, to include landing at Omaha Beach during Operation Overlord in the Summer of 1944. After the war, Davis graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in business. He worked for the National Cash Register Company and later the International Cash Register Company, and sold cash registers for 50 years throughout the South Carolina lowcountry. He was a faithful member of Grace Church Cathedral, and supported veterans throughout his life.

In addition to his wife, Eleanor, he is survived by his children, Eleanor "Ellie" M. Huggins, William D. "Dave" Huggins, Jr., Anne Christal "Chrissy" Binz (Joe) and Nelson B. Huggins (Celeste); grandchildren, Margaret Davis Huggins, Joseph Davis Binz, Nelson Beard Huggins, Jr., Ashleigh Anne Binz, William Davis Huggins III and Ellie LeGette Huggins; and his brother, Harry Leard Huggins (Elizabeth).

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Samuel "Ted" Leard Huggins, Jr. and Henry Edward Huggins, and his twin brother, Nelson, who was killed in action during World War II.

The family extends their gratitude for the loving care provided by Estelle Washington, Intrepid Hospice and the many dear caregivers over the recent years.
