William Gerald Howington

William Gerald "Jerry" Howington, 72, of Charleston, SC, husband of Sandra Hiers Howington, entered into eternal rest Thursday, May 15, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. His funeral service will be held Sunday, May 18, 2014, in Charleston Baptist Church, 13 San Miguel Road at 3:00 pm. Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in Charleston Baptist Church. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway.

Jerry was born September 7, 1941 in Birmingham, Alabama, the only child of the late James Earnest Howington and Foy Morris Howington. He was a graduate of Marion Military Academy and continued his education at the University of Alabama. He was a huge fan of the University of Alabama and the Clemson Tigers football teams. He and his wife owned and operated Discount Book Distributors for more than 30 years. Jerry enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing and boating, and was a member of the West Ashley Outboard Motor Club. On a recent family trip to Hawaii, he was zip lining and snorkeling. He was a member of Charleston Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy Howington of Charleston; four sons, Jeff Howington (Debbie) of IA, Mark Howington (Marilyn) of MI, Will Howington (Mark) of Seattle, WA and Brad Howington (Michelle) of Charlotte, NC; mother, Foy M. Howington of Charleston; eight grandchildren and Braden on the way.
