William "Billy" Seabrook Hills, Jr., 76, of Charleston, South Carolina, beloved husband of Rhonda Reames Hills, father of Amber Hills and grandfather of Ariel Hills, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 9, 2024. His funeral service will be held Friday, March 15, 2024 at the Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island, 2164 HWY 174, Edisto Island, South Carolina at 12:00 pm, graveside only. The family will receive extended family and friends following the service at their home at 124 Evening Shade Drive, Charleston, South Carolina 29414 for a celebration of life gathering.
Billy was born March 22, 1947 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late William Seabrook Hills and Helen McTeer Hills. Growing up on Edisto Island, South Carolina, he played baseball and loved being in the creek. He graduated from St. Paul's High School and attended Trident Tech where he obtained a civil engineering degree. On January 3, 1976, he married the love of his life, Rhonda Reames Hills and they built a life together in the Lowcountry. In the late 70's and early 80's, he owned and captained the Tammy Rose, a shrimp boat run out of Edisto Beach. He went on to work in commercial construction and for Charleston County Public Works. His passions were his family, fishing, and shrimping. He was known as the fish whisperer and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the local creeks with his granddaughter, nieces, nephews, and others. His favorite furry companion was his therapy dog, Beckett, and all the dogs before him. Billy will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul who never had a harsh word.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rhonda Reames Hills; one daughter, Amber Hills; one granddaughter, Ariel Hills; two sisters, Joyce Lybrand (Sammy) of Edisto Island, SC and Dottie Thomas of Edisto Island, SC; two sisters-in-law, Felecia Boyd of James Island, SC and Pamela Temples Padgett (Jack) of Charleston, SC; many nieces and nephews; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Seabrook Hills and Helen McTeer Hills.
