Dr. William Vernon Gibson, Jr., 82, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Mary Virginia Smith Gibson entered into eternal rest Saturday, February 6, 2016. His funeral service will be held Friday, February 12, 2016 in Historic Church Christ Church, 2304 Hwy 17N, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466 at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road.

Bill was born August 5, 1933 in Cleveland, Tennessee, son of the late William Vernon Gibson and Hazel Duff Gibson. He was a graduate of Vanderbilt University. During his Naval career he served on the USS Wasp and USS Forrestal. He retired as the Chief Dental Officer at Charleston Navy Base, Charleston, SC. Bill's passion was golf and he accumulated nine official holes-in-one. He was a member of Snee Farm Golf and Country Club and enjoyed many days with friends on the local courses.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Virginia Gibson of Mount Pleasant, SC; son, Michael Gibson (Laura) of Tallahassee, FL; sister, Dottie Zimmerman (Fred) of Winchester, TN; two grandchildren, Kylie Gibson, Amanda Gibson; nephews, Duff Zimmerman and Alan Zimmerman both of Winchester, TN, and Andy Zimmerman of Mt. Juliet, TN; niece, Amy Montgomery of Richardson, TN.
