William Henry Bill Fennell, Jr., 86, of Isle of Palms, SC passed away peacefully Sunday, July 26, 2015 at 4:45 p.m. His memorial service will be held Saturday, August 1, 2015 at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Bill was born on March 9, 1929 in Charleston, SC, a son of the late William Henry Fennell and Anna Fort Fennell. He graduated from McClellanville High School and played on the basketball team which won several titles. He attended Newberry College for two years and served our country in the Navy for two years during the Korean war conflict. He also was a retired bartender and had worked on a tugboat for many years up and down the east coast.
Bill loved to go out in the boat in the creeks of McClellanville and Isle of Palms to gather oysters for a living. He taught his children and family how to get oysters, clams, crabs and shrimp and to love the outdoors around South Carolina! He impacted many people by helping others in need and teaching his family to do the same. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends but we are comforted by knowing he is in the presence of Jesus!
Bill is survived by his girlfriend and living companion, Carol Rogers; his former wife and mother of his children, Mary M. Wrixon; son Rev. William K. Fennell and his wife Debbie O. Fennell, and son, Timothy David Fennell; daughter, Luanne Elizabeth Harley; six grandchildren, Christopher Fennell and his wife Katelyn Fennell, Melissa Fennell, Lauren Fennell, Lucas Fennell, Melinda Canipe and her husband Troy Canipe, and Wayland Harley; one great-grandson, Cooper Kempton Fennell; and his sister Eleanor Meunier. His niece, Dorothy Harrison, who cared for him in his last days, is much appreciated by the family for her support. He is also survived by three great-nieces, Cindy Megia, Elizabeth Boyd, and Marilyn Thomas; and three great nephews, Mark Meunier, Robert Wyndham and Charles Thomas- who was a great help to Bill in his last days!
