William Douglas Courtney, 80, of Meggett, South Carolina, husband of Sarah Courtney entered into the presence of the Lord Thursday, August 17, 2023.
William was born January 21, 1943, in Kingstree, South Carolina, the son of the late Hayden Courtney and Eunalee Walters Courtney. He was a retired Master Craftsman in Carpentry.
William is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sarah Robertson Courtney; three children: Douglas DaVant Courtney (Nancy) of Juneau, AK; Esther Marie Courtney-Fludd (Daron) of North Charleston; Thomas Hamilton Courtney (Amy) of Hoonah, AK, his grafted-in daughter Avis R. Johnson of North Charleston; sister, Linda Snowden of Lake City; and six beautiful grandchildren: Jamie Grace Courtney, Carly Geane Cashen, Avaree’ Margarita Courtney-Fludd, Nicholas Hamilton Courtney, William Robert Courtney, and Sialia "Isla" Rosalie Wren Courtney.
His siblings are Linda Snowden (the late John Snowden) of Lake City, SC; and was proceeded in death by sisters Joyce Thigpen and Janice Stroud. He was a brother-in-law to Rosemary Hardee (Legrand); Francis Drayton Robertson (Debbie); the late Hugh Hamilton Robertson (Barbara) and the late James Porcher (the late Mary Strickland).
The family will receive friends Monday August 21, 2023, in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel (3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway) from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. His funeral service will be held Tuesday August 22, 2023, in the J. Henry Stuhr West Ashley Chapel at 10:00 am. Burial services will conclude Tuesday afternoon at Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 3905 Big Woods Road, Kingstree, SC at 3:00 pm.
