William "Sleepy" Compton, Sr., 81, of Hanahan, SC, widower of Mildred "Cubbie" Cooper Compton, died peacefully in his sleep Wednesday morning, March 2, 2011.
A funeral service will be held Friday, March 4, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the graveside in Carolina Memorial Park.
Mr. Compton was born October 15, 1929 in Anderson, SC the son of Frank S. Compton and Annie J. Brown Compton.
Sleepy was a retired pipefitter and a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local # 421. He was a quiet and gentle man who appreciated the simple things in life. He was a hard working, loyal, father and grandfather who enjoyed fishing and NASCAR racing and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by: one son: William B. "Billy" Compton, Jr. and his wife Kava of Johns Island, SC; four daughters: Amber Keys and her husband Barry of Rutherfordton, NC, Chrystal Hawkins and her husband Michael of Charleston, SC, Tracy Norris and her husband Fred of Sullivan's Island, SC and Tara Compton of Folly Beach, SC; one brother Major Compton of Hanahan, SC; two sisters: Frankie Lysaught of Virginia Beach, VA and Linda Maynard of Pooler, GA; and seven grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to "The Dream Center", 2301 Bellevue Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90026
