William D. Chamberlain, retired assistant editor of The Post and Courier newspaper, and husband of Elizabeth H. Chamberlain, died on January 10, 2012.
Born January 7, 1924, in St. Matthews, SC, to E. Burnham Chamberlain and Margaret Sanders Chamberlain, Bill was a graduate of the High School of Charleston and the College of Charleston. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 while a college student, and served in both the European and Pacific theaters in World War II. In 1950, he was recalled to active duty during the Korean War.
Surviving are his widow: two sons, W. David Chamberlain, Jr. (Camille) of Mt Pleasant, SC and Dr. Steven A. Chamberlain (Kathe) of Shelby, NC; four grandchildren: Allison Chamberlain Abramson of Atlanta, GA, Austin Chamberlain of Durham, NC Reid Chamberlain of Charleston, SC, and Rhett Chamberlain of Charlotte, NC; and a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Abramson. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward B. Chamberlain, Jr. of Portland, OR.
The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. William David Chamberlain are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the graveside in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday between 5:00 and 7:00 PM at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
