William "Bill" Gregory Carson, 83, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Iris Lee Wilson Carson entered into eternal rest Tuesday, May 8, 2018. His memorial service will be held Saturday, May 12, 2018 in St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 67 Anson Street at 2:00 p.m. Interment, Churchyard. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Bill was born July 23, 1934 in Methuen, Massachusetts, son of the late George Carson and Ruth Westwell Carson. He served as an altar boy at St. Monica's Catholic Church and attended Methuen High School.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Bill began a long career as a marine engineer, both at sea and on land as a surveyor for the American Bureau of Shipping and later as a private consultant.
In 1963 Bill met and married Iris Lee Wilson of Wilmington, Delaware and began a family. They lived in Wilmington and Baltimore before settling on James Island in 1987.
In retirement, Bill captained a charter fishing boat, sharing his love of the estuaries around his beloved adopted home.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Iris; brothers: George Carson and Barry Carson; sisters: Ruth Bower and Nancy Browell; his children: Marianne Austin, Beth Hammer, Kelly Snouffer, Karen Eichman, Melissa Pound and Bill Carson; 19 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
