William “Bill” Van Horn, 54, of Summerville, SC entered into eternal rest Wednesday, June 26, 2024. Bill was born on October 29, 1969 in Sharon, PA, son of the late Leon and Grayce Van Horn.
He retired from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office as a Lieutenant following 28 years of service. At the time of his death, Bill was a Criminal Defense Investigator with the Charleston County Public Defender’s Office. He served well and loved his colleagues deeply.
Bill was a devoted husband and father. He loved people and could talk with anyone, making them feel at ease. He was passionate about sports, a die-hard fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Disney.
He was a member of Cathedral Church. Over 27 years, he served in many areas including Children’s Ministry, Guest Services, Security, and Growth Track.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Paulson Van Horn of Summerville, SC; son, Bennett Van Horn (Kelsey) of Summerville, SC; daughter, Abby Van Horn Plock (Tommy) of Summerville, SC; sister, Debra Robinson (Rob) of San Antonio, TX; brother, Guy Van Horn (Cindy) of Summerville, SC; nieces, Catherine Van Horn Thomas (James) of Ridgeville, SC; Maggie Versprill, Laura Robinson and Bonnie Robinson of San Antonio, TX. Uncle Bill was greatly loved by his great-nieces and great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Claire Sarchet Van Horn and nephew, Nick Van Horn.
His Celebration of Life will be held Monday, July 1, 2024 at Cathedral Church, 3790 Ashley Phosphate Road at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The service will be streamed at live.wearecathedral.com for those unable to attend in person.
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society online at givenow.lls.org in honor of his daughter Claire. Flowers will be accepted.
