William 'Bill" Albert Jordan

April 21, 1935 — September 23, 2018

William A. Jordan ("Bill"), age 83, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and most recently of Hilton Head Island, died unexpectedly in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 23,2018.

Bill was born on April 21, 1935 to Albert Clauss Jordan and Mary Magdalyn Platt Jordan. He graduated from Charleston High School, attended college, and graduated from the United States Army Command and General Staff College, where he also served as an instructor, on occasion. Bill retired from the United States Army Reserve/South Carolina National Guard as a Lieutenant Colonel. His primary job was with the Post & Courier, where he worked as a staff photographer for 46 years. It's impossible to determine the great number of photos published with "Staff Photo By Bill Jordan," but friends frequently said they could look at a photo in the newspaper and recognize it as Bill's, even before they checked the photo credit. After his work day, he frequently stopped by The Ark, Jimmy Dengate's, or the Charleston Yacht Club, where he loved sailing and frequently participated (and often won) the Club pool tournament. Bill loved Charleston, once turning down an opportunity to work for Kodak, because he did not want to leave his beloved city. He had many fascinating stories, which he loved to tell while sipping "dark wine." He was an avid reader, and he loved to watch movies--especially mysteries involving Poirot and Charlie Chan. Bill was a member of many organizations, including Hibernian Society of Charleston, Washington Light Infantry, and Knights of Columbus. He served as an usher at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church for more than 15 years and was a member of the men's club. For many years, he planted and harvested vegetables in a garden he farmed with family friends, and he enlisted the aid of his wife and children in the process.

He is predeceased by his wife, Patricia Gertrude "Trudy" Jordan; his parents; his sisters Martha and Virginia; his brother John; and his daughter Carol Jordan Pye (Artie), who have two surviving children and 4 surviving grandchildren. Bill is also survived by his daughter, Jill Jordan Weatherford (Chuck) of Charleston and her two children and two grandchildren; his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Jordan (Jim Maginnis) of Hilton Head Island and their daughter Vivienne Maginnis; his son, William Christopher Jordan (Gina) ofMt. Pleasant and their sons, Will and Jack; and his son, Mark Whalen Jordan (Laurie) of Sullivan's Island and their children, Caroline, Graham, Thomas, and Zoe.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 27,2018 from 5-7 pm, with Rosary at 5 pm, at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Sullivan's Island on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 10:00 am, with burial immediately following at St. Lawrence Cemetery. Thereafter, Chris and Gina Jordan will host a get-together at their home, 851 Law Lane, Mt. Pleasant.

In lieu of flowers and if desired, please consider making a memorial donation in Bill's name to Stella Maris Catholic Church, Post Office Box 280, Sullivan's Island, South Carolina 29482.
