Lieutenant William Manigault Barnwell, US Navy (Retired) passed away at the age of 71 in his home on Thursday, June 17th, 2021. A memorial service will be held for family and friends at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 26, at Christ Church, Hwy 174, Adam's Run. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.
Bobie was born August 24th, 1949 in Charleston, SC, the son of Thomas Osborn "Ozzie" Barnwell and Joyce "Dumpy" Barnwell Cave. After a standout career as a student athlete at St Paul's High School, he attended Clemson University. Following graduation in 1971, he entered military service as an enlisted soldier before earning a masters degree and commission as a Naval officer in the Submarine Supply Corps, where he served aboard the USS Seadragon and USS Florida. After retiring to his family home on the Toogoodoo river, he enjoyed a peaceful life of gardening and quiet service to friends and family alike.
He is pre-deceased by his brother, John Frederick "Teddy" Barnwell; and his son, Bryan McClellan Barnwell. He is survived by the love of his life, Karen "Tootie" Barnwell; their children, William Manigault Barnwell IV and Melissa Barnwell McAdams; eight cherished grandchildren; his brother, Thomas Osborn Barnwell Jr.; and countless other friends and family who were blessed to know him.
