Willard Matthew Joyner

August 24, 1926 — March 3, 2018

Long time Charleston business man Willard Matthew Joyner died on Saturday, March 3, 2018. He was 91 years old. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 15, 2018 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 17, 2018 in Doubleheads Baptist Church, Sylvania, GA at 12:00 pm. (noon), with burial following in the churchyard.

Mr. Joyner was a U. S. Army WWII Veteran, having served from 1944 to 1946. He was graduate of Armstrong State and served his community of Rincon, Georgia. He went on to become president and co-owner of Joyner-Black Inc, partnered with Robert F. Black in a successful millwork, cabinetry and hardware business that subcontracted many commercial contracts across the Lowcountry and the State of South Carolina, since 1975. Mr. Joyner retired in 2007 at the age of 81. Mr. Joyner's hobby since a very early age, was working with his hands and continued until his death.

Mr. Joyner was also an active member of Pinecrest Baptist Church and was a past member of Rutledge Memorial, Northbridge and St. Andrews Baptist Churches where he served as Deacon in each. He also held other positions and was a diligent servant to his church doing what ever was needed. He was also active in the Charleston community and a member of SCV Camp 4.Mr. Joyner was born August 24, 1926 in Sylvania Georgia. He was the son of Boney Matthew and Bertie Peavey Joyner. He was married to the late Dorothy Nease Joyner for 63 1/2 years. He was the youngest of seven children and was predeceased by a brother William and his sisters Carlene Joyner Anderson, Eunice Joyner Clayton, Dahlia Joyner Jenkins and Gladys Joyner Dickey and is survived by his 100 year old sister Myrtle Joyner Jenkins.

He is also survived by his three sons, Gregory Wayne Joyner and his wife Carol Douglas Joyner, and their daughter and son-in-law Amanda and Bruce Allen Redick of Summerville, Brian Keith Joyner and his fianc" Deborah Wolff and his son Dalton Riera from Charleston, SC, Curtis Matthew Joyner and Jill Hucks Joyner and their children, Matthew Ray and Kendall Lynn Joyner. Mr. Joyner also had two great-granddaughters Amy Caroline and Lily Margaret Redick and many loving nieces and nephews.
