Wilhelmina Cato Braswell, age 83, of Charleston, SC, and Kingsville, Texas, wife of Elliott S. Braswell entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 9, 2014. Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2014 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Stuhr's chapel.
Wilhelmina was born on July 11, 1930, in Columbia, SC., the daughter of the late Aquilla B. Cato, Sr., and the late Bertha Prescott Cato. She graduated from Harsville High School and attended the University of North Carolina Woman's College. In 1950, she married her loving husband of 63 years, Elliott Sylvester ("Butch") Braswell. She was a very busy homemaker, raising seven children, while also supporting her husband in his various shipyard operations and other business ventures. She was a very loving, devoted and supportive wife, mother. grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great- grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family.
She is survived by her husband; three sons, James Elliott Braswell (Pat) of Jacksonville, Florida, Walter David Braswell (Loraine) of the Republic of the Philippines, Elliott Sylvester ("Butch") Braswell, Jr. (Joy) of Kingsville , Texas; four daughters, Valli Braswell Sottile (Nick) of Mt. Pleasant, SC., Patricia Braswell of Charleston, SC., Jennifer Braswell Kosiarski (Walter) of Panama City, Panama, and Cindy Braswell Hood (Edward) of Portland, Texas; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her brother, Paul Cato, of Woodruff, SC.; and three sisters, Bertha (Jimmie) Howell of Sumter, SC., Priscilla Cato DuBose of Sumter, SC., and Beatrice Cato Seal of Tampa, Florida. She was preceded in death by a sister, Suzanne Cato Jones of Texas., and a brother, Aquilla B. Cato, Jr., of Jacksonville, Florida.
