Wiley Eugene "Genie" Wellons, 72, of Ravenel, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 27, 2022. His Funeral Service will be held Sunday, October 2, 2022 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 2:00 pm, The family will receive friends beginning one hour prior. Interment will be scheduled at Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
Genie was born October 11, 1949 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late James Wiley Wellons and Rachael Kinard Wellons. He is survived by his brother, Ernie Wellons, and is preceded in death by his sister, Suzanne Berry, both of Charleston.
Genie was a machinist at the Navy Yard until the time of his injury in 1990; since then he has advocated for notoriety in wheelchair athletics and was an icon in bringing wheel chair competitions to the Charleston area. Genie has spent the last few years working with the peace corp by helping construct wheelchair ramps for those in need. If you ever spoke with Genie or listened to his voicemail, you realized that he was an avid Clemson Tigers fan. He will be laid to rest in his teams colors.
