Wilbur Frank "Butch" Benton

Wilbur Frank "Butch" Benton, 73, of Sullivans Island, South Carolina, husband of Edith Spencer Benton died Sunday, September 13, 2015. His funeral service and burial will be held in Columbus, Georgia. A visitation will be held at the residence on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.

Butch was born November 24, 1941 in Columbus, Georgia, son of Wilbur Clarence Benton and Hortense Stuart Benton. He was a graduate of Auburn University and served in the US Army. He retired from Columbus Bank and Trust in 1996 as a Senior Vice President.

He is survived by his wife, Edith of Sullivans Island; son, Richard Spencer Benton (Tracy) of Austin, TX; daughter, Kathryn Benton Smith (Bachman, IV) of Sullivans Island, SC; sister, Paula Benton Bissell of Columbus, GA; brother, David Stuart Benton of Lake Norman, NC; and five grandchildren, Clayson Smith, Celia Smith, Bachman Smith, V, Elizabeth Benton, and Tatum Mason.
