Wesley Eugene Anderson

Wesley Eugene Anderson, 83, of Longview, TX, departed this life for glory on May 29, 2024, at 10:30 am.  Wes was born November 28,1940, in Charleston, South Carolina. The second of three sons born to Walter and Lillian Anderson. He is preceded in death by his parents, older brother, Walter William Anderson, and younger brother Donald Wayne Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Jolene M. Anderson, two daughters, Tina Catapano and Cynthia Anderson, both of Charleston, South Carolina, his stepson Robert Canaguier and wife Jamie, and stepdaughter, Stephanie Canaguier. Wes had eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, as well as many friends and church family who cared deeply for him.

Wesley joined the U.S. Navy in January 1959 and served shore duty stations in Key West, Florida, Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. He then was aboard the USS Valley Forge Carrier, went to California and finally in a joint Army/Navy/Air Force exercise at Fort Lewis, Washington to serve during the Cuban Crisis. When it ended, he received his honorable discharge three days before Christmas 1962, and was able (by bus) to return home to Charleston by Christmas Eve.

His waking years after that were mostly with the James Island Fire Department, The City of Charleston Fire Department and finally retiring from the Naval Weapons Station Fire Department. At age 50, he became an insurance agent and moved to Longview, Texas in 1994.

God called Wes to jail ministry in 1980. He began ministry at the Charleston County jail and continued after he moved to Longview until the pandemic. He was a Gideon for approximately 12 years and a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church for almost 20 years. His faithfulness to prayer and his powerful testimony was used to bring many to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

In his last days, Wes handed out bibles and shared the gospel with anyone who would listen. He desired to be more like Christ in every way and his conversations were about his heavenly home until the day he got to run into the arms of Jesus.

Funeral services for Wes will be held at Rader Funeral Home in Longview at 2 pm on Tuesday, June 4. A visitation will be held the night before between 6 and 8 pm. The burial for Wes will be held later at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, South Carolina.
