Wattie Landon "Smitty" Smith, 77, of North Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Christine Winn Smith entered into eternal rest Friday, July 4, 2014. His Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 7, 2014 at 10:00 am in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway. Interment will follow in Beaver Dam Baptist Cemetery, 4611 Ridegland Road, Ridgeland, SC at 1:30 pm. The family will receive friends in Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel Sunday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Wattie was born October 9, 1936 in Jasper County, South Carolina, son of the late Claude Smith and Patience Mixson Smith. Wattie was married to Christine for 57 years. He loved his wife, girls and grandchildren dearly. Smitty was a busy man, he had many talents and skills, he did not like to sit still. He was working, repairing and tinkering with something, there was never anything he could not fix. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing and getting oysters. In addition to his welding skills, he could cook, sew, lay brick, electrical and carpentry work. He was a great mechanic having been involved in area racetracks. Everyone came to Wattie for help or advice on cars, lawnmowers, trailers and other things. Wattie's passion was planting several gardens at one time, he planted every vegetable known year round and shared with family, neighbors and friends. Wattie was well known for his delicious huge collard greens.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Christine Winn Smith of North Charleston, SC; two daughters, Karen Smith Bedenbaugh (Steve) of Goose Creek, SC, Susan Smith Black (John) of Hanahan, SC; three sisters, Alberta Zeigler of Hampstead, NC, Lillian Lollis of Warm Springs, GA, Geri Hendrix of Savannah, GA; four grandchildren, Craig Records, Melissa Bedenbaugh, Brittany Black, Bradley Bedenbaugh and many nieces and nephews. Wattie is preceded in death by his sister, Dot Moore and brother Claude Smith Jr.
