Washington Reid Patrick, Jr., 88, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Alice Lemacks Patrick, departed this life Thursday, February 25, 2021 at the Medical University of South Carolina. His private Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, March 2, 2021 in St. Philip's Church, 142 Church Street. Interment will follow in Churchyard. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 28, 2021 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Reid was born July 31, 1932 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Washington "Wash" Reid Patrick and Ruby Brown Patrick. He was raised at his life-long residence on Colonial Lake and graduated from Clemson University Agricultural and Military Academy in 1956. After which, he served his country in the U. S. Navy. Reid formed W.R. Patrick and Son with his father, later, becoming sole owner until he sold the business in 1983 just as the anti-tobacco campaign was getting strong.
Among Reid's many talents was woodworking, and his beautiful, hand-made pieces in the early-American style grace many of Charleston's fine homes. He was an avid Clemson Tigers fan, and was "psyched" by their 2016 National Championship win. Reid was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Carolina Yacht Club, the Charleston Club and was a Board Member Emeritus with the Star Gospel Mission.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alice; grandson, Jude Holmes Eaton-Patrick; and his adoring nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Reid was preceded in death by his son, Washington Reid Patrick III.
Memorials may be made to the Star Gospel Mission, 474 Meeting Street, Charleston, SC 29403.
