Warwick "Rick" Lewis Hennigar, 71, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Leslie Fowler Hennigar entered into eternal rest Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

Rick was born July 28, 1954, in Richmond, Virginia, son of the late Dr. Gordon Ross Hennigar, Jr. and the late June King Hennigar.

He is survived by his wife, Leslie Fowler Hennigar; son, Gordon Ross Hennigar of Daniel Island, SC; brother, Dr. Randolph Alexander Hennigar (Marianne) of Seldon NY ; two sisters, Donna Hennigar Josephson (Hardy) of Richmond VA and Sandra Hennigar Hallas (Kirby) of Virginia Beach, VA; several nieces and nephews, two great nieces and a great nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gordon Ross Hennigar III.

Rick, a lifelong member of the Charleston sailing community, was raised in the Hobcaw Point neighborhood. His deep connection to the water and his community began early in life and remained steadfast throughout the years. In 2000, he returned to his childhood neighborhood, this time to settle permanently. He became an active leader serving as a board member of the Hobcaw Yacht Club, where he helped foster the same spirit of camaraderie and adventure that defined his own youth. He was affectionately known as the "Mayor of Hobcaw Point".

A passionate sailor and respected competitor, Rick proudly participated in international events such as the Black Sea Cup hosted by the USSR. He was an engaged member of CORA (Charleston Ocean Racing Association) and co-founded the Charleston to Bermuda Race, which played a pivotal role in organizing the Leukemia Cup Regatta, benefiting the American Leukemia Society. His leadership and generosity helped strengthen Charleston’s reputation as a premier sailing hub while supporting a cause close to his heart.

Professionally, Rick built a diverse and accomplished career. He was a successful yacht broker, combining his love of boating with a talent for connecting people to the water. He later excelled as a mortgage banking professional. In recent years, he dedicated himself to the funeral and cremation industry, serving families with compassion and integrity through his work at Stuhr’s Funeral Home and the Charleston Cremation Center. His colleagues remember him as steady, kind, and deeply devoted to the people he served.

Outside of sailing, Rick embodied the ideals of brotherhood and integrity and joined brothers Ross and Randy as a proud member of Sigma Nu Fraternity at Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. He built lifelong friendships and exemplified the fraternity’s core values of honor, accountability, and service.

Whether at the helm of a sailboat, around the docks of Hobcaw, or in conversation with friends, Rick will be remembered for his wit, loyalty, and unwavering passion for the sea and the community he loved so deeply.

He leaves behind a legacy defined by friendship, service, and an enduring love for the Lowcountry waters that shaped his life.
